EARLY DROP OFF & LATE PICKUP

Summer and Holiday labs run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Early drop-off, starting at 8:00 am is available at all locations. Late pick-up, lasting until 6 pm, is available in the Center Slope and Tribeca locations only. The cost is an additional $15 for every hour or partial hour used. No advance notice is needed for this service. The Lab will bill the card on file once the time is used. If children are not picked up by 6:15 pm, a penalty of $15 will be charged. For every minute after 6:15 pm, an additional $1 will be charged, unless the Lab is notified of extenuating circumstances and agrees to waive the penalty. Children who self-dismiss but do not leave the Lab by 3:20 will be considered as using extended hours and the credit card on file will be charged $15 for every hour or partial hour used.

For those attending in Park Slope, we reserve the right to move children from the South Slope location to the Center Slope location after 3:30 pm to consolidate our late pick up activities.

LEAVE BAGS AT HOME

Our storage space is severely limited, so please leave bulky (or virtually empty) backpacks at home. Ideally children arrive with a sack lunch in one hand and a water bottle in the other.

BRING A WATER BOTTLE

Students must arrive with a water bottle (please purchase a disposable water bottle from the corner store for your child if you forget to bring from home). Children play in Prospect Park (Park Slope) and tentatively Battery Park City Parks (Tribeca) for 45 minutes daily (weather permitting), engaging in physically strenuous activities. Children can re-fill their water bottles throughout the day from our water cooler.

The Lab does not provide lunch. All students should bring a sack lunch. NOTE: We do NOT have a refrigerator or microwave in the Lab, so pack accordingly. Snacks are permitted and encouraged, but not provided by the Lab. We ask parents to avoid tree nuts whenever possible, although we do NOT have a strict no-nut policy. If your child has any severe allergy, or travels with an EpiPen, you must alert staff at drop-off and provide explicit written instruction on your child’s waiver.

LUNCH / FOOD ALLERGY

SUNSCREEN

Participants spend approximately 45 minutes in the sun daily, playing games in Prospect Park (Park Slope) and tentatively Battery Park City Parks (Tribeca). Parents are responsible for supplying their children with sunscreen and are encouraged to apply it in the morning before arriving. Our Lab counselors will not instruct children to apply sunscreen unless told by the parent at drop-off and in writing on the child's waiver.

BATTLE LAB

Battle Lab, which allows children to take part in a Live Action Role Playing game in Prospect Park (Park Slope) and tentatively Battery Park City Parks (Tribeca) and fight with foam swords and shields, is heavily featured during summer. Safety is our primary concern, but – as with any playground game or physical activity – the risk of injury exists. Parents may choose to have their children abstain from participating by alerting us at drop off and providing a written note on the child's waiver. And, please have your child wear footwear that allows him or her to be active and safe.

ABSENCES & CANCELLATIONS

There is a 48-hour grace period in which to cancel a seat with no penalty, except when the seat is booked for an activity that occurs within those 48 hours, in which case, there is no refund. There are no refunds for Summer seats after March 20th. If children cannot attend days originally booked, due to absence or scheduling issues, we will make our best effort to switch to seats in other weeks at no charge. We will not issue a refund if no mutually agreeable date can be found.

FULL TERMS & CONDITIONS

Brooklyn Game Lab Parent/Guardian Agreement & Notice of Policies

I represent that I am the parent or legal guardian of the child I am enrolling, who is participating in a semester, summer lab, program or other event (hereinafter the “Program”) by or with Brooklyn Game Lab LLC/Brooklyn Game Lab of TriBeCa LLC (hereinafter “Game Lab”).

I hereby certify that my child is in good health and that my child has no limitations that with or without a reasonable accommodation would preclude his/her safe participation in the Program.

I hereby give my authorization and approval for my child’s participation in any and all of the activities of the Program. I further acknowledge and agree that participation in the Program involves outdoor activities (known as “Battle Lab”) in which students participate in LARP (live action role play) activities, and, further, that risks include physical injury.

I further acknowledge that the above is not inclusive of all possible risks associated with the program and that the above in no way limits the extent or reach of this release.

By enrolling my child in the Program, I agree to release, indemnify and hold harmless on behalf of myself, my heirs, representatives, executors, administrators, and assigns Game Lab, its officers, agents and employees from any cause of action, claims, or demands of any nature whatsoever, including but not limited to a claim of negligence, which I my heirs, representatives, executors, administrators, and assigns may now have or have in the future against Game Lab, on account of any personal injury, property damage, death or accident of any kind arising out of or in any way related to my child’s enrollment in the Program.

Through my signature below, or checking the appropriate box during online registration,  I acknowledge that I have read this Agreement and understand that it includes an assumption of the risk and a release of liability. I understand that Game Lab is relying on this waiver in allowing my child to participate in the Program.

I have read and understand the above information and agree to its terms.

After School Registration/Early Termination

By enrolling in Game Lab’s After School program I am committing to my child’s participation for the full semester, and that my credit card will be charged monthly over the course of the after school semester. If I must terminate my child’s after school  participation at any time during the semester, my child’s Game Lab membership will end and I agree to pay the early termination fee. The early termination fee is $20 for every month enrolled in after school during a semester.

After School Make Up Policy

After school is not held on public school holidays. These closures are factored into the semester’s overall fee and there are no make-ups for days that after school is not in session. Make ups can be requested for after school sessions missed due to illness or family schedule and they will be scheduled for an after school session immediately before or after the absence (capacity permitting). Game Lab may not allow a make up past the week the absence occurs and does not issue credits for missed sessions.

Summer Lab Registration Policy

To secure a seat, payment must be received in full at time of booking. There is a 48-hour grace period in which to cancel a seat with no penalty, except when the seat is booked for an activity that occurs within those 48 hours, in which case, there is no refund. There are no refunds for seats after this period, including for illness. If a family schedule changes, seats may be switched to different sessions if space allows.

Lunch/Snack Policy

Each day I will provide my child with a lunch and snacks. All food must be tree-nut free and not require refrigeration. If my child forgets their lunch and/or snacks or their lunch and/or snacks do not meet the requirements set above and Game Lab has to provide my child with lunch/snacks I agree to fully reimburse Game Lab for the cost of the food. I understand that indemnification and hold harmless language above applies equally to all food provided to my child, including but not limited to lunch provided to my child as contemplated by this paragraph.

Allergies

I hereby acknowledge that I’ve alerted Brooklyn Game Lab’s ownership of any medical issue, dietary issue, allergy, or illness that could impact the safety and well being of my child and her peers in the lab. If my child might require an EpiPen, other medical device or medication, I have left it (labeled with my child’s name) with the staff with explicit, written instructions.

Emergency Medical Treatment

I do hereby give permission to Brooklyn Game Lab to obtain the necessary emergency medical treatment for my child, with the understanding that the family is notified as soon as possible. If my child receives an injury during the session, I am responsible for any medical expenses incurred.

Rain Gear/Outdoor Gear Policy

Each day Game Lab may take the children outside for various activities. For days where it may rain, I agree to provide the appropriate raingear for my child. I understand that if I would like my child to wear sunscreen while outside, I will provide that in their bag each day. Game Lab will not apply sunscreen to children, but will remind them to apply it.

Lost and Found

Game Lab recommends that you label all personal items with your child’s name. Game Lab is not responsible for any lost, stolen or misplaced items.

Design Release

I understand that my child will be participating in large, collaborative game design efforts and acknowledge that any contribution, play-testing feedback or design suggestions offered up as part of the program are property of Brooklyn Game Lab and eligible for use in Game Lab programming, marketing materials and product line.

Photo Release

I permit the program to use photographs of my child and/or her projects and work in program materials. I understand that personal information about my child will never be shared in conjunction with these photographs without my permission.

Other Policies

I understand that Game Lab reserves the right to ask my child to leave the session if it is determined that he/she is in any way disruptive to the Program. Any decision made by Game Lab in this regard will be in Game Lab’s sole discretion. Game Lab asks that the parent/guardian disclose all pertinent information regarding their child’s past school experiences and/or behavior so we may help you decide if our session is appropriate for your child. If the parent withholds information pertaining to special needs, behavioral, physical or other and it is determined that Game Lab is not appropriate for your child, refunds will not be given. Children exhibiting behavior that may be harmful to themselves or others may be gently held by supervising staff to prevent them from causing harm. If we find out that your child does not meet the age requirements for the session, your child may be asked to leave, and no refund will be made. Similarly, if your child is asked to leave the session for any reason, no refund will be made.
